Mind & Body: Surefire Morning Mood Boosters…

Looking for a better way to start your days? I am always refining my morning rituals & routines. Since I was little I’ve always woken up well before the sun rises… a trait I share with my grandfather.

Fast forward to today with two little girls in my life and my awesome silent bubble of morning bliss has surely been popped. Those cuties who were sound asleep wake up the moment you do and are eager to see what fun things mommy has in store for them. In short, I need as much go-go juice in the morning as I can get.

How do I fuel up body and mind sans coffee? Here are a few of my secrets for getting glammed, gorgeous and and feeling truly alive and ready to conquer the day… (Surprise: the words coffee and laptop are not part of the formula.)

You’ve heard me wax on and on about yoga. It truly works for me. While I believe practicing at a studio will develop you as a yogi, all you really need is a mat and a willingness to explore this different style of working out. It is truly the best thinking I do all day and the most efficient workout I’ve ever done. Toned glutes and clear thinking? Zen bliss indeed!

In terms of green drinks:  I’m a fan of green lemonade but I’m always looking for more efficient ways to optimize my energy and really revitalize my body. After all, a glow from within cannot be faked even with the best of blushes! I’m eager to try Aloha’s line of products. Until I do, I’m using this stuff and I love it. Tip: ease into it. try half a scoop to start and work up to a full scoop. Powerful!

Breakfast: my ALL time favorite meal. I’m presently obsessed with these pans for my veggie omlettes. They are the best pans I’ve found and are completely non-toxic, non-stick and just AMAZING. Super happy with this purchase and I feel better knowing my cookware isn’t slowly poisoning me.  Also, I’ve gone gluten free and an wowed by the difference in my health. Supercharged indeed.

Beauty: hello! You deserve to maximize that healthy post-workout/post-juice glow with a good glamming session. Read about my beauty routine here, but meet my new lipstick obsession in Blush Nude courtesy of one Mr. Tom Ford. It’s that amazing shade of nude that has just a hint of pink to make you look pout perfect.

About that music: My Pandora (or Spotify) + Sonos combo is heaven for me. Wireless speakers bumping the best sound I’ve ever heard, plus a never-ending source of music is heaven. I have created 100 stations using Pandora and wouldn’t dream of living a day without Salsa, Bollywood or Cafe Ibiza tunes streaming throughout the house. Music can alter your emotions so quickly that it’s a wonderful tool for energizing a household or creating a chill atmosphere. Try it, commit to it and you’ll never live without this mood booster in your life again.

These might seem like small adjustments to your life or perhaps this would be an entire habit overhaul. All I can attest to is that these behavior patterns launch me into a more dynamic day and set me up for success. Isn’t that a great way to start a day? Now… go kick some morning booty!

Currently Obsessed: Iris & Ink…

In case you missed it, the Outnet introduced their own line of apparel called Iris & Ink. Imagine luxurious staples at fair prices and you’ve sort of nailed the collection. While it’s all lovely, here’s my favorite casual look from their lineup of modern pieces. Based upon how quickly everything is selling out it’s clean they nailed their customers’ wish lists with this initial round of fashion favorites. Leather dresses, cashmere sweaters, iconic white blouses and skinny denim lead the charge in this small but terrific collection. I love that nothing looks overly fussy, but the designs are all still fully feminine. Bow-front blouses,  peplum styling and tailored pieces make this a girly girl’s stylish dream. See it all before it completely sells out!

Note: the Valentino pumps are not Iris & Ink but they match that cashmere so well I just had to highlight them. And… did I mention they are presently half price? Go make yourself happy

Faye Washed Silk Bow-Front Blouse (or similar sans bow) // London Stretch Leather Leggings (or similar look with their skinny denim} // Joyce Cashmere Sweater (or cropped version) //  Brixton Leather Bucket Bag // Valentino Crystal Embellished Suede T-Bar Pumps

Feeling a lot like this today. Ready for any wonderful thing the world dishes out! Expect great things & you’ll experience great things.

What to Wear: Desk to Dinner Date…

Navigating daytime to dinner date looks is normally a sizable feat. Thankfully we’re in full on “girl power” mode in terms of fashion lately, so transitioning from “meeting chic” to after dark damsel is simple:

A fabulous blush blouse, a flirty skirt and d”Orsay pumps balance the line between babe and business brainiac. Add accessories that simply accentuate your good looks and you’re halfway there.

My favorite fashion “trick” is to tuck an eye-catching clutch into my daytime tote. It keeps you organized and makes bouncing out the door for that date a snap. Personal beauty tip: reapply nude lip and add a spritz of your favorite fragrance just before heading out. You’ll look and feel positively radiant.

Trendspotting: Fabulous Florals for 2015…

Diane absolutely shut it down with her ethereal collection at #NYFW. Between the breezy chiffon fabrics and the oversized and modernized floral prints, I was overcome by her shameless femininity. DVF often reads a bit more modern and strong female power, but I dare say she’s tapped into the theme of boldness in softness (which I adore!) and is showcasing the most powerful asset we have as women: our femininity.

Not limited to just one style, Diane showed us gingham, florals, stripes, suiting, pants, skirts, solids and every hemline possible. We’re loving her bold thigh-high slits but it’s her prettier looks we adore more. Full skirts, matching jackets and the dreamiest tangerine meets hot pink combo you ever did see. And… did I mention Naomi Campbell ended the show. Enough said. See the full scoop here

Following her on Instagram is so inspiring, as it offer glimpses into the behind-the-scenes action. Diane’s instructions to the girls on the catwalk was “Be happy, be sexy, be the woman you want to be. Smile!” which set the tone for the show. Bouncy hair, perfect makeup a colorful pouts further pushed the feminine mindset. I can barely wait for these beautiful pieces to hit the showroom floors. In the meantime, here’s a little current season DVF for to inch you closer to next year’s full-on flowery look.

Perspective: Passions First, The Rest Will Follow…

A friend of mine has truly followed the wise words of Tim Ferriss in the 4-Hour Work Week. Knowing she loved traveling to Italy, she created a fashion company that required her to visit several a year. No more clocking hours behind a desk in “hopes” of returning to the Italian countryside. No. Instead, she rearranged her life in such a way that made those once few and far between trips mission critical to the success of her business. Fast forward to today, she owns a growing men’s fashion brand and has logged more time amidst the cypress trees of Lake Como than perhaps even Clooney himself.

This upside down thinking is so blatantly right side up that I’m surprised more of us aren’t living that life. Here’s a girl truly living her dreams and making a living by following her passion. What is she doing this weekend? After a posh train ride through the bucolic Tuscan landscape, she and a friend are now prettily perched in a luxe hotel in Florence for the weekend. Her stream of snapshots is enough to make anyone’s Instagram feed blow up. All in the name of business. After all, it’s important to visit the manufacturing team in person and select new fabrics for each season. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it requires her to learn a little Italian, schmooze with the local talent, visit picturesque European villages and towns and - oh, yes -  sip post-dinner espresso along the Arno after a hard day of work. Hello, delicious corporate tax write-off and life worth living.

What do you value most in life? Is it travel? Family? Education? Pinning that down is the first step. Now, consider what you would need to do to make that activity or that focus the true priority in your life. Does it mean moving? Does it mean quitting an unfulfilling job to pursue your dreams? Does it mean eliminating those time-wasting activities so you can focus on the people in your life? Life is indeed incredibly short. The passing of so many noteworthy celebs lately is a stark reminder of our brief window of opportunity to fully make use of our lives. There just won’t be “somedays” littering your future. It’s time to wise up to that fact.

Find your passion. Decide how you want to spend your days and then shift your life around to make that possible. Need a kick start? Read this book. No time? Read the busy-person’s synopsis and start making the necessary changes to make every day a day spent living your dreams. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

Color Crush: Necessary Neutrals…

It’s definitely a “between the seasons” moment right now. The southern heat makes fall seem like a distant fantasy, but one look at the calendar says September is right around the corner. Regardless of what those magazines tell me I’m just not prepared to inject autumn decor into my space when I’m still holding tight to my summer fun. In light of this, I’m craving neutrals and aged metallics everywhere I look. A linen pillow here, whitewashed planks there and a bit of gold (as per usual) to luxe it up a bit. Surely next month I’ll feel differently, but for now, let’s keep this summer vibe going a bit longer, okay?

Shop the Look: Tamara Mellon’s Sleek Manhattan Apartment…

We can’t think of anyone who radiates sex appeal quite like high-heeled fashion mogul Tamara Mellon. With all the controversy surrounding her sultry Manhattan apartment designed by Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, it seemed the perfect time to reflect upon what makes this space so intriguing. But first… can we have a moment to reflect upon the good old days when she & her million dollar designer were besties and this penthouse was her proud sexy high rise perch? It was an icon meets tastemaker moment we’ll not soon forget, but it seems these two would rather move past it and forget it ever happened. Lawsuits are such a nuisance, no?

Back to the glory days of this over the top space that suited her as well as a pair of sky high black patent stilettos… Is it your typical penthouse? Clearly not. It is very much a mix of Ms. Mellon’s rebellious edge and Martyn’s “designed with a wink” style. From a sultry leopard rug to a 70’s worthy white leather tufted sofa, this is a home designed to be a fanciful escape for this high-wattage fashion icon after hours. It says come hither. It declares you are dripping with confidence and not afraid to show it. It is clearly a space that suited her at the time they collaborated on the space.

Want to channel your own American Gigolo (Gigolette?) style? Here are a few key pieces to help you recreate the vibe…

Luxe Accommodations: Kid and Coe…

Travel with children is an entirely new experience. With one I felt limited. With two I feel determined. Nothing is going to stop my insatiable need to roam the earth. I will concede that it’s far easier to convince the Mr. to hope on a flight to a domestic location. Even better if said location is a high end rental property where we can truly unwind and settle into a vacation frame of mind. Enter: Kid and Coe, family vacation rentals with you and your brood in mind. Homes and locations are vetted for their tot-friendly nature and proximity to things you (and your mini-you’s) will love doing.

Fear not… you won’t find yourself in a home across town. These are incredible properties all over the globe. Think: Vienna, Laguna Beach (my personal favorite on the domestic front), the Greek Islands and beyond. This is VRBO and Airbnb for those of us with little ones in tow.

Do you know what this means? No. More. Excuses.

Icons: Ford’s Focus…

Last night I read an interesting interview with Tom Ford via esquire. He dishes on fatherhood, his loathing of short pants, the importance of maintaining tight abs and other tidbits. Here are a few of my choice quotes:

"The most important thing a man can do is exercise and maintain his weight. Because that’s the key to looking youthful.”

I liked that one because it applies to all humans. Exercise adds color to your face and delivers that natural glow better than any NARS product possibly could.

"I don’t shout. Shouting is wasted energy. It embarrasses people in front of other people.”

So much wisdom packed into this. He is absolutely right of course. Shouting, in my opinion, is a display of being out of control. It reflects terribly on the person doing the shouting, and visibly wounds the one on the receiving end. Don’t do it.

"If I were straight and I were trying to seduce a woman, I could do it just by standing up at the table when she came back from the bathroom. It works. Every time I do that, all the straight men are sitting at the table and their wives are kicking them.”

Wise observation, Mr. Ford. Wise observation. Chivalry is most certainly an appealing quality in a man.

It’s clear from this (and every) interview with the fashion icon that confidence is not something Mr. Ford lacks. In the interview he candidly admits to having little or no fashion industry expertise in his early career. I love a self-made star who is simply “born with it” and then works tirelessly to achieve the level of success Tom has. He’s an interesting fellow showing no signs of stopping or ceasing to evolve. At 53 (yesterday was his birthday) he’s as relevant today as he was during those revolutionary Gucci years.

Happy belated birthday, Tom. And keep those abs tight. We’re watching. And by all means, please keep making those amazing sunglasses. We love them.
